Oklahoma teen pregnancy still one of highest in nation

Over the last 25-years, teen pregnancies have dropped overall, but nationally the rate is declining at a faster rate than in Oklahoma. This has kept Oklahoma near the top of the list.

Over the last 25-years, teen pregnancies have dropped overall, but nationally the rate is declining at a faster rate than in Oklahoma. This has kept Oklahoma near the top of the list.

Oklahoma is ranked second in the nation — behind Arkansas and ahead of Mississippi, according to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

“I think teen pregnancy will always be a issue … because we do not have a comprehensive health education system,” said Paul Patrick, administrative program manager for Maternal and Child Care Services at the state Health Department.
