Health advocates working to decrease the teen birth rate in Oklahoma County have a new goal — lower the rate by an additional 25% by 2025.
In 2015, advocates planned to reduce the rate by one-third by 2020. Those targeted efforts proved extremely successful, lowering the teen birth rate instead by 42% in 2019.
So even though the state still has the third highest rate in the nation at 29.8 births per 1,000 females ages 15-19, organizers said the progress and success created momentum.
